Cannock Chase (Staffordshire)
A large area of heathland north of the town of Cannock. Great butterfly interest with a small colony of Small Pearl-bordered Fritillary and a large population of Green Hairstreak. Small Pearl-bordered Fritillary can be found in Sherbrook and Oldacre Valley and the best place for Green Hairstreak is by the Glacial Boulder.
Cannock Chase is one of only two breeding sites in England for the rare Welsh Clearwing Moth (Synanthedon scoliaeformis). This factsheet reports the study findings from a two and half year study that was completed in 2024.
